A lot of my athletic efforts have in one way or another revolved around vertical meters. This audio-supported visualization uses my recent years of activity data and plots the cumulative vertical gain over its duration for each activity. Each single activity has its own starting point in the visualization and is located vertically close to the day of the year that the activity was performed in. The data preprocessing was done in Python, the visualization was designed in P5.js.

For the 2021 submission, Beatroots upped their game and studied the Jukebox model released by OpenAI. This model opened many opportunities to sample musical audio waves and complete musical ideas in the style of many genres and artists. Beatroots fine-tuned the model with curated similar sounding songs and picked the most promising sample it could generate. The final sample was then remixed into an actual song, which Beatroots named Robotic Love. An open source Style GAN trained on 70s sci-fi comics created an accompanying music video.

6 dataroots colleagues group together with only one mission: generating fully automated songs by clicking a button! The final algorithm generates songs by traversing the shortest distance in MIDI harmonies sampled by Variational Autoencoders. Songwriting was so easy each team member generated their own tunes. The final submission (Violent Delights Have Violent Endings) was democratically voted by the whole company.
